I recently saw a meme on social media warning that there is dihydrogen monoxide in our food and drinks. Of course, this meme was made as a joke. Considering dihydrogen (h2) monoxide (o) is just water, it seems unlikely anyone is seriously concerned about it being in their food or drink. However, it does bring up an interesting concern about the chemicals that are found in our tap water.

The EPA has certain standards for drinking water that allow a “safe” level of some chemical contaminants into our drinking water supply. These chemicals can include antimony, arsenic, asbestos, barium, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, copper, cyanide, fluoride, lead, mercury, nitrate, selenium, thallium and others.  (read more about the regulated drinking water contaminants here)

All of that is allowed, in certain amounts, in our drinking water supply. The EPA may be correct to assume that the water is perfectly safe to drink with those levels of contaminants in it, but you don’t drink it from where they are testing it. After it is tested by the EPA, it travels through miles of pipes (some over 50 years old) before it gets to your house, and goes through your pipes. What might it have picked up along the way? Have any of those pipes developed cracks over the years? could nitrates from fertilizer, or pesticides be seeping into the pipes that carry your drinking water? The only way to know for sure how good the quality of your drinking water is would be to test it where you get it from… your tap.

Unfortunately, the EPA doesn’t test the water at your house, they leave that up to you. And if you get your water from a well, the EPA doesn’t test your water at all. However, we do test the water quality at your house… you just need to give us a call and set up an appointment.

Crystal Clear Water can perform a simple test at your home for sulfur, iron, hardness, tannins, nitrates, and pH. We can also send a sample of your water off to one of our labs for more in depth tests. After the tests results are back, we can formulate a proper water treatment system for your home that will ensure your family is getting safe, clean tasty water that won’t leave hard water stains on your clothes, dishes, or appliances. (We can also eliminate those ugly water stains that your sprinklers leave on the side of your house.)

Experts say that your home water should be tested every year. Don’t delay, give Crystal Clear Water a call and let us come out and do a full inspection on your water system. Because having clean water is something you shouldn’t have to worry about, and it may be interesting to know what other chemicals have dissolved in your Dihydrogen Monoxide.
