The summer is over. The days are getting shorter, and the traffic is getting longer. They say you can tell when it is fall in Southwest Florida because of the changing colors of the license plates. When I was a kid, they used to tell me that the population of Fort Myers doubled in the winter. I don’t know if that was true, or if it still is true today, but it sure seems like it sometimes, doesn’t it.
Well, no matter how many of you snowbirds there are, we are glad you are back. You make things more exciting here in the winter. However, you did miss a few things while you were gone. We had a little storm named Irma come through here a few months ago, and remember that drought last year? Well we fixed that.
Speaking of wells… If you are coming back to a winter home that is serviced by well water, you might want to have the water tested before you get to comfortable. All this storm water and runoff can contaminate wells, and since yours has been sitting stagnant, it is best to be on the safe side.

Plumbing deteriorates, and Southwest Florida’s hot and humid summers can expedite the process. An annual check up and service on your filtration system is a good idea anyway, so you might as well take care of it before you start using the water a lot. Some water filters recommend service every 6 months while others can go 12 months. Either way, if you have been gone since last winter, now is the time to schedule a service appointment. If your water appears cloudy, has a funny smell or a funny taste, buy bottled water until we can get out to test it.
Whole house water filtration units are generally low maintenance, but they do regular upkeep. Just like you should regularly change the filter in your air conditioner, or the oil filter in your car, the filter in your water filtration system needs to be changed.
Of course, if you haven’t been here in months, then you haven’t been using your filter either. So it may be fine. Then again, algae may have grown in it. You see, these are all reasons that it is a good idea to call Crystal Clear Water to have one of our technicians come out and test your water, and do an inspection on your system.
